Every year, in May, L’Atelier Theatre NY presents a festival of French plays with our students at a theater downtown. Since 2012, we have presented L’Hotel du libre échange by Feydeau, La Nuit de Valognes by E.E Schmitt, Don Juan, The Imaginary Invalid et The Precieuses Ridicules by Molière at 4th Street Theatre in the East Village, as well as two plays by Feydeau in 2016: Le Dindon and La Dame de chez Maxim’. In 2017, we presented three plays by Ionesco Rhinocéros, Jeux de Massacre, The Killer at Theater for the New City. This past season, we were proud to present an original comedy by Guillaume Sirvent La Lumière à tous les étages, On the High Road, a one-act play by Anton Tchekhov, as well as an immersive adaptation of The Madwoman of Chaillot by Giraudoux. The development and production of these plays is always a powerful time for all the participants at L’Atelier.
“This year at L’Atelier has been a true, inspiring artistic and human experience. Lots of intelligence and quality in the choice of text. A collective as well as individual experience. The fine exploration of emotions, sensations and internal vibrations favored authenticity in the acting. L’Atelier is an excellent school to learn how to expand and deepen one’s acting.”
